About the Merger
On July 5, 2011, BMO Financial Group completed the acquisition of Wisconsin-based M&I, bringing M&I and Harris together to create a strong U.S. banking organization under the name BMO Harris Bank N.A.
Leading up to the merger, M&I was one of the largest Wisconsin-based banks, with 188 offices throughout the state and a total of 182 more in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri and Nevada.
Harris, owned by BMO Financial Group since 1984, had grown to become one of largest banks in the Chicago area, with more than 300 branches, serving customers in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin with affiliated locations in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, New York, New Jersey, Texas, Virginia, Washington.
M&I and Harris are an excellent strategic, financial and cultural fit, with each bank having served its customers for over a century. The merger transforms and strengthens BMO’s U.S. operations and positions the business for growth.
Going forward as one banking organization, BMO Harris Bank will bring the best of Harris and M&I together, and will benefit from the strength, stability and vision of BMO Financial Group. We will continue to focus on building relationships with our customers. We’ll also maintain our deep commitment to the communities where our employees work and live.
